Two people. One shared belief. Golf has always been where influence lives, and it was time Black women claimed their place on the fairway.
I grew up in Prestea in the Western Region of Ghana, where I first learned that ambition and community are not separate things, they move together. When I came to London and entered the world of financial services, I found myself navigating spaces where Black women were rarely reflected. The boardroom. The networking circuit. And most starkly of all, the golf course.
Golf is not just a sport. In this country, it is a language of power. Deals are made on fairways. Partnerships form over a round. Careers advance through the kind of access that only comes when you are in the room, or in this case, on the course. I realised quickly that Black women were not just underrepresented in golf. We were being shut out of one of the most important professional networks in the world.
So I built the room myself.

Black Women Golf Network exists to give professional women the confidence, the coaching, the community and the access that golf has always provided, but rarely extended to us. Every event, every swing, every connection made on our monthly Fridays is a step toward changing what leadership looks like in this country. I am also a contributing golf journalist for Planet's Golf Review, because representation off the course matters just as much as representation on it.
James Mason has spent his career immersed in golf, as the Editor of Planet's Golf Review, he has travelled the world's finest courses, interviewed champions, and written about the game he loves with passion and precision. But the more he saw of golf, the more he noticed what was missing.
Golf, at its finest, is one of the most powerful networking tools in the professional world. It builds relationships, opens doors, and creates access that no boardroom alone can replicate. James believed, and still believes, that every professional woman deserves that access. And that Black women, who bring extraordinary talent, ambition and excellence to every industry they enter, deserve it most of all.

Co-founding Black Women Golf Network with Monica was not just a professional decision, it was a personal one. The game gave James a great deal. Helping to ensure it gives that same opportunity to a generation of Black professional women in London, and beyond, is exactly what the sport needs and what he is proud to be part of.
